Dearest Susan,
This past winter’s clam wars were unsparing, and we lost most of our fleet to muskleg. I’ve known only heartache since the spring expedition to the Salisbury Clam-flats has begun. No one has been able to locate any clam beds either, we’re in a dire time indeed here. 1 eighth rations for non amputees. I fear the lords colony may fall. My superior leftenant Helmson said he spoke with some local savages about a deep cravats in the north woods filled with a bounty of horse-head clams. My plan is to volunteer for first dive, fill my quota and return to you by midsummer.
Yours forever,
Johnswith Forton LaCombs, Brunswick Newfoundrealm. 1768 AD. #HeDied #love
